1. Explain how the theory of plate tectonics was developed and describe how it came to be a theory. Why is it not a hypothesis, why is it not a law?
   • Be sure to discuss all hypotheses and lines of evidence that were collected as the plate tectonics theory was developed.
2. How was proto-Earth different from Earth today? What is density stratification and how did it change proto-Earth? How did density stratification lead to the development of Earth’s second atmosphere?
3. Describe, thoroughly, the life cycle of an ocean basin. The key word here is cycle. Be sure to begin with describing the embryonic stage and finishing with suturing of continental crust.
