A major theme of this course is that science doesn’t occur in isolation. It’s impacted by any number of outside factors in its progression. Additionally, the way that scientists and technical communicators address these factors while still adhering to the ‘science’ is a goal of this course. To meet this goal, I’m asking you to author a top-notch white paper on a scientific/technical process. White papers act as a translation document that addresses technical and non-technical audiences alike in efforts to market a product or process. Therefore, white paper authors must strike a delicate balance between staying true to the process and explaining it in such a way that multiple audiences will appreciate its effectiveness, benefits, etc.
Your job is to select a scientific or technical process and author a white paper to market to both technical and non-technical audiences. This assignment also represents the major assignment for the course, so we will have plenty of time to practice executing an effective writing process that includes drafting, revision, and editing.
